Katherine’s relative, Jimmy Carville, brought this 1930 Arkansas College yearbook to a family dinner last night. One of their Downie cousins was enrolled at the school that year.

Flipping through the book, we enjoyed looking at the tinted photographs, quirky, hand-cut photo collages, deco-ish illustrations not to mention all the great 30s “looks” of the students.

I didn’t get a pic of the sport pages but there was a section where each player was highlighted. These profiles included nicknames like “Spider,” “Oats,” and “Snake.” One player didn’t make many games but was honored for being well-versed in the rules of basketball.

Also there were some anachronistic “society” pages at the back of the book. In particular, what’s a Erosophic Literary Society (picture below, bottom right)? “Eros” – I’m thinking it’s a love poetry appreciation group? Or maybe the fancy name is cloaking something more pedestrian in nature. Say, dirty limericks?
