Last Day at the 2012 State Fair

Last Day at the 2012 State Fair

Yesterday was the last day of the AR State Fair. Helen was supposed to go with her BF Kate but Kate and her Mom were sick. So we went. Harrison was already there with his buddies Milo & Eli. We hooked up with them for awhile and then hit the rides solo. Helen and I rode a slow ferris wheel, a broken down haunted house that was humid inside and smelled of oil, a backwards ride that went in a circle called Rocking Out, an insanely fast Gforce ride called the Himalaya, and a purple tilt-a-whirl. Helen also rode the wave swingers about four times. She’s pretty fearless about the rides but also not stupid. There were some rides that she said “she would never go on.” The bungee slingshot, for instance.
I have to say, I felt pretty worn out after the excursion. I didn’t eat bad. Well. Nothing fried. Though I did have a turkey leg and a vanilla soft serve waffle cone. But the Himalaya ride really screwed me up. We both agreed it wasn’t fun. Helen was pinned to me and I was pinned to the side wall of the cart as we went around and around in a circle. There was a slam-your-neck-back bump at about 10 o’clock along the ride’s track that was pretty rough. So whiplash and nausea were this diversion’s raison d’etre. Oh yeah. And ater you did it once clockwise it slowed to a stop and then went baaackwards.
Did I mention this ride was sponsored by The Point 94.1, Helen’s favorite radio station? Yeah. But they weren’t playing classica rock. This gyre of pain spun to the beat of some abominable modern rawk track. Yuck Himlalaya. Never again.
Anyway, while enjoying the festivities I managed a couple of neat shots. One from the ferris wheel of some people standing in the center of the ferri’s wheel’s shadow and two of the wave swinger in action, stiched together via the Duomatic app and processed in CameraAwesome.
